Red Trillium
The scarlet stinker. This wildflower is so much more pleasing on the eyes than the nose. I photographed this beauty on May 12 – Migratory Bird Day. Starting back in 1993 by The Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center, it is a day to connect people to bird conservation. It's a day to recognize and bring attention to bird migration in the Americas. This year on this day, I took part in a NH statewide bird observation with the NH Audubon and explored the Deering Wildlife Sanctuary. It was a dreary and drizzly day – which kept most of the birds at bay. But there was some action. Among some of the birds we did spot were Scarlet Tanagers, Great Blue Heron, Hooded Mergansers, and Common Yellowthroat. Some of the spring wildflowers spotted that day include this red trillium and jack-in-the-pulpit. © Christie Wrazen 2018, Deering NH, Tripod-mounted.
