  • I had been wanting to visit the Ossipee Pine Barrens for some time. I made it finally in October 2015. Walking through the forest I couldn't help but look all around and up above at all the vibrant colors. The canopy that day was a view I really wanted to remember. The Ossipee Pine Barrens forest is a rare and disappearing ecosystem found on the eastern side of New Hampshire. Less than 2,000 acres remain of what was once a 7,000 acre ecosystem. The Barrens preserve is home to many rare animals and insects, including lepidoptera (moth and butterfly) species and several declining shrubland birds, such as the common nighthawk and whip-poor-will. © Christie Wrazen 2015, Freedom NH, Hand-held.
